History

The track was built in 1957 for about $1.5 million, raised from local businesses and people, after the Pebble Beach Road Races were judged too dangerous. It sits on land that was part of Fort Ord. Laguna Seca is Spanish for dry lake, and the course was laid out around a dry lake bed.
